BioFoam® - Eco Friendly Bean Bag Filling
Biofoam® is a compostable form of vegetable extract that has been expanded into micro pearls and is a perfect eco-friendly alternative to polystyrene. It looks similar, but is made from vegetable materials rather than petroleum based plastic. This means that it is derived from a renewable resource, has an organic base and is biodegradable.
Derived from plants (mainly corn), lactic acid is extracted from the vegetable raw materials and made into a micro pearl which is then expanded with CO2. Even though CO2 is used in manufacturing, this is offset from the use of plants for the raw material and Biofoam® is CO2 neutral in manufacturing. This makes Biofoam® a more sustainable product than traditional polystyrene filling which is both unsustainable to produce and is not compostable. In fact, once created, polystyrene can last for hundreds of years and as a non-biodegradable substance, is very difficult to recycle or repurpose.
At the end of its use, Biofoam® can be industrially composted or composted at home in a Hot Bin Composter. To compost Biofoam® both moisture and heat above 45 degrees need to be applied simultaneously, an important feature given its use as a filling, as it will not breakdown on its own over time.
Choose from various sizes of filler packs, including 60, 120, 180, or 240 litres of filling.
These refills come packaged in paper sacks which are also compostable.

Our Eco-Chic Homeware Collection
As a coffee roaster we go through quite a large number of coffee sacks each year. These big hessian sacks, with colourful printed designs representing their origins, are synonymous with coffee and are still the default choice for transporting coffee around the world. Normally discarded, we wanted to come up with a way they could be reused and given a second life.
These hessian sacks, with their rugged charm and durable material, were too valuable to be discarded and we realised they had the potential for a second life, one that could contribute to reducing waste and promoting eco-friendly practices. This marked the beginning of an upcycling initiative that has evolved into our collection of homeware items made from repurposed hessian coffee sacks.
The collection includes bean bags and cushion covers perfect for adding a rustic touch to any living space, as well as stylish bags that serve as a bit of a statement piece for the eco-conscious shopper.
Transforming these sacks into beautiful, functional items for the home wasn't just about reusing; it was about reimagining. Each piece will carry the story of its origin, designed to blend seamlessly into modern living spaces while maintaining its unique character.
By giving these hessian sacks a new lease of life, we're not just creating homeware; we're making a statement about the importance of sustainability and the power of innovative thinking. It's a reflection of our commitment to not only minimising our environmental impact but also inspiring a movement towards more sustainable living practices. -
Designs
The print design on your item may vary from the images shown on our product pages, as our finalised products are dependent on the availability and variety of the coffee sacks we source, which fluctuate based on our recent coffee roasting batches and the unique sacks we obtain.
Each piece is crafted with care, ensuring that your item is not only unique in its design, but also consistent in quality and craftsmanship. -
